Pastels

This week in art I have been working more with pastels and trying to figure out different and the best techniques for me and my art work!
I really enjoy blending colours and making different scenerys.
The first picture was used to get the feel of blending colours and stuff before I decided to make something.
The second picture was my first attempt and it didn't realy turn out that well!
Mountains with the sunset reflecting off the lake
The third picture I made i was thinking about the summer and camp and just used colours that reminded me of summer.

Invisible art

About a week ago or so Mrs. Rose showed us a video about an artist named Lana Newstrom, she makes invisible art and sells some of her invisible work for  35,000 a peice.  My opinion on this type of art is that I think that it's kinda crazy, considering people are paying for nothing ! But I also admire her imagination and creativity. We later realized that she did it for charity and all the money was donated to charities! So I think that this way a very inspiring and creative way to donate money.

Pottery

One of the materials I really wanted to try was pottery. it was really difficult for me and I had allot of troubles the first time that I tried It.  I really enjoyed doing it and felt comfortable working with clay, even though my first pottery item didn't turn out so well..  But I would really like to work on my pottery skills and hopefully by the end of the year improve on what I can do right now!
Some of the pots that I saw on tumblr that made me want to try pottery was  these prices of art work:

Water Color

For this year in art class I wanted to experiment with more materials, expecially ones that I hadn't got a chance to try. I tried to try water color painting but it didn't really feel like me!
This is just a attempt at water color,  I painted a mushroom with different and outlined it with black fine paint to try and make it stand out more

Do you value traditional art or contemporary art? Which type makes more sense to you?

I think that I value traditional art work more than contemporary art. I value this more because I traditional art never runs out of style and is always so beautiful & really tells a story! I think that the art work that makes sense to me the most would also have to be traditional art, because it's easy to see what the artist was thinking about while creating it,  where with contemporary art is more random, but that's just what I think!

Traditional artist

The traditional artist that I chose was Francesco Mugani. I chose this traditional artist because I really liked her art work style. I love how she uses so much detail and colors into her work! It really makes it pop out and makes it really eye catching for the audience. Her paitings are also really realistic and vibrant.  Another reason why I like Francesco's work is because it almost looks abstract!

Contemporary artist

The contemporary artist that I chose was Robb Pruitt.  I chose this artist because I really liked his art style. I think that it is simple yet very elligent! I like how he chooses to keep most of his art work about the same culture, and exposes the complexity of black identity by combining contrasting signs of disparate black influence.

Is it important to choose your own art materials? How does it help you as a student? As a artist?

I think that it is important to be able to choose our own materials that we want to work with, because generally people choose the material that they're best with and most comfortable. I also think that its important to maybe let the teacher choose there's materials sometimes to try new things because you might realize that you like a different material than your usual. I think it helps me as a student and a artist because it's giving me a bigger variety of materials and different types and styles of art that I can try to do!
